    Get PDF
Antitumor activity of polysaccharide PST001 isolated from the seed kernel of Tamarindus indica was evaluated using different cancer cell lines. Human cancer cell lines A549, KB, and MCF-7 and murine cancer cell lines DLA and EAC were treated with PST001 and cell growth inhibition was assessed by MTT assay. In vivo studies were carried out for toxicity, tumor reduction and immunomodulation. The respective IC50 of PST001 in A549, KB, and DLA was at 80.72, 190.99, and 91.14 μg/mL. Significant tumor reduction was obtained in both DLA and EAC tumors on treatment with PST001 which was more prominent when PST001 was administered with CTX/5-fluorouracil. Increase in total WBC, CD4+ T-cell population, and bonemarrow cellularity suggested strong immunomodulatory activity for this compound. No significant abnormality was observed in toxicity studies. Thus the results of the present study suggest that PST001 has immunomodulatory and tumor inhibitory activities and has the potential to be developed as an anticancer agent and immunomodulator either as a sole agent or as an adjuvant to other chemotherapeutic drugs

Reliability in the utilization of the Global Positioning System (GPS) data demands a higher degree of accuracy with respect to time and positional information required by the user. However, various extrinsic and intrinsic parameters disrupt the data transmission phenomenon from GPS satellite to GPS receiver which always questions the trustworthiness of such data. Therefore, this manuscript offers a comprehensive insight into the data preprocessing methodologies evolved and adopted by present-day researchers. The discussion is carried out with respect to standard methods of data cleaning as well as diversified existing research-based approaches. The review finds that irrespective of a good number of work carried out to address the problem of data cleaning, there are critical loopholes in almost all the existing studies. The paper extracts open end research problems as well as it also offers an evidential insight using use-cases where it is found that still there is a critical need to investigate data cleaning methods

Tamil poets have created, named, categorized, summarized and preserved dialects based on dialects in order to preserve the language they speak. Before exploring the importance of numbers in language it is necessary to know the design of grammatical literature. It is possible that the Sanskrit poets called the text grammar of the words when they recorded the language, they created in the journals so that it would be known to the world, and the textual literature of the world empirical biographies based on his quote characters. The words created for measurements such as size and mass are the primary letters of the words and the reasons for giving a special place to measurements in Tamil are explained. In order to give Tamil a lofty place in the world languages in are the numbers to indicate the of an action, the time of action, and the number of soldiers involved in the war. The conclusion of the study is outlined

To live in harmony with nature, ancient men faced many challenges and increased their energy. There are many types of ancient games. Ancient games depend on traditional social networking sites. Sports have been important since the time when mankind started climbing the development ladder. The purpose of the study is to explorate the learnable happiness to amplify playing skills through sangam game oraiyaduthal. 100 female athletes from Avinashilingam University who participated at least in district level competitions in different sports were subjected to sampling. These Samples were used to find out the improvement in learning happiness and playing skills. The data obtained were analyzed using synthesis in social science. One-way analysis of variants and T- tests were used to detect significant mean difference value. Using this the relationship of the classified samples were known. Overall, the present study has two important conclusions. First it is known that the oraiyaduthal game has produced high levels of subjective happiness and secondly, by using the Game Image Skill Questionnaire test, it was found that strategy, targeting, perception, emotion, sportsmanship and handling tough situations among team and individual athletes have been enhanced. In this, team athletes showed more improvement than individual athletes

A comparative evaluation of oxidative status of erythrocytes in normal and sickle cell disease patients

It is well established that G6PD deficient individuals are subjected to high oxidative stress and, hence, stiffening of the cell membrane due to oxidation of important membrane proteins. This effect is pronounced in RBCs where G6PD is the sole producer of NADPH, an essential cofactor in the antioxidant defense mechanism. A different approach is to evaluate oxidative stress as the analysis of antioxidant concentrations. GSH can be oxidized, mainly to glutathione disulfide (GSSG), or can form glutathionylated proteins (PSSG). The measurement of GSG, GSSG give fundamental information on the intracellular redox status. Analytical methods based on spectrophotometry, HPLC, capillary electrophoresis, nuclear magnetic resonance, and mass spectrometry have been reported for the determination of glutathione in biological samples. Our study has concluded that the HPLC method to measure the concentration of reduced (GSH) and oxidized (GSSG) glutathione in the normal (healthy) and Sickle Cell Disease patients. Erythrocyte glutathione depletion has been linked to hemolysis and oxidative stress. Our study revealed that the total antioxidant status in steady-state sickle cell disease (SCD) patients and compared it with some healthy individuals and related it to certain hematological parameters and their recent clinical history. 15 (males & females) adult SCD patients and 15 age-matched controls were studied. And we hypothesized that altered glutathione and glutamine metabolism play a role in this process. Total glutathione (oxidized & reduced) were assayed in erythrocytes of 15 SCD patients and 15 healthy volunteers. Erythrocyte glutathione levels were significantly lower in SCD patients than in healthy volunteers. The ratio of erythrocyte GSH: GSSG correlated inversely to the oxidized levels of the erythrocytes. &nbsp

The edge geodesic cover problem of a graph GG is to find a smallest number of geodesics that cover the edge set of GG. The edge kk-general position problem is introduced as the problem to find a largest set SS of edges of GG such that no k1k-1 edges of SS lie on a common geodesic. We study this dual min-max problems and connect them to an edge geodesic partition problem. Using these connections, exact values of the edge kk-general position number is determined for different values of kk and for different networks including torus networks, hypercubes, and Benes networks.Comment: This research is supported by Kuwait University, Kuwai

The present investigation had been done to optimize the effect of barley malt on production of barley based beverage. Malting of barley was carried out by steeping the cleaned and bold grains in tap water at 16°C for 2-3 days. The steeped grains were also germinated at 16°C for 2-3 days and the grains showing optimum growth were sorted out and kilning was done at 60°C for 1 day. Different levels of malted grain (i.e. 0, 1, 2, and 4 %) in barley extract were optimized. It was found that addition of 4 g malt to the extract was found to be effective in decreasing the viscosity and avoiding the formation of gruel like structure. There was non significant sensory change found on addition of roasted malt grain. Amylase activity of malt significantly increased on increasing time and no reducing sugars resulted at 90°C. Nutritive value of malted beverage was improved over control. Total soluble solids (TSS), viscosity, protein, fat, reducing sugar and total sugar of malted beverage was significantly increased as compared to control. Malted beverage was more organoleptically acceptable than control. Final beverage was made with 4 g malt, 25 g bengal gram and 15 g peanut per extract from 100 g barley with addition of sugar to 17°brix and homogenizing for proper mixing was autoclaved. Thus, malting could be an appropriate food-based strategy
